RE: Natchez Trace worth the trip?

I live right off the trace and it is beautiful. The leaves will be in peak color by the time you leave. There are several campgrounds along the way that are a few miles off the trace, but worth the 15 minute detour. David Crocket State park in Lawrencburg TN is a nice park only 15 minutes from the trace, and there are several nice COE campgrounds within a few minutes as you go through Mississippi. Two words of caution, the speed limit is 55 and the State Troopers/Park Rangers are serious about enforcing it. Also, deer season just started here and there are tons of deer along the trace. With deer season underway, the deer are more than likely to be wandering and cross the road.
Gas is plentiful the futher south you go from Nashville. Running about 3.79 a gallon, 4.09 for diesel.

RE: Beach Erosion at Topsail?

The beach erosion was not all that bad this time. The storm surge did bring a good deal of debris to the beach, and it will likely remain under yellow-flag conditions for the remainder of this week. I suspect that the clean-up will be complete by this weekend, and things should be near-normal by next week.
The road to the lake is coming along and they have completed the water-line installation leading to the new bathhouse at the lake. You can walk on the road (too loose for bikes), to see the progress. Once complete, this will be a very nice addition to the park, and will allow many more people to visit the lake and will create more biking opportunities.
Picture of progress:

Thanks TNT4UT. We'll be there Saturday, just in time to watch TN take on Florida. I had to give up my tickets for the game this weekend to go to Topsail, but it will be worth it.
By the way, you PM me last year about the best way to get to Topsail from Middle Tn. Your directions shaved off 45 minutes from our normal drive coming down 331 from Montgomery. Thanks!

Beach Erosion at Topsail?

We heading down next week. I heard the water was all the way up to the boardwalk. Any substantial beach erosion? Also, is the playground finished?

RE: Getting it home if you are unable??

We had a dire situation last month that required my wife to pull our 30' travel trailer for the first time. I was exiting out our travel trailer one night and missed the first step. Down I went, catching myself with my left hand on the concrete pad. I had a very nasty compound fracture that required surgery. We were in the Smokey Mountains, and decided to go back to Nashville for surgery since the small hospital in Servivlle couldn't handle the surgery. My wife had to hook up the camper for the first time by herself (with our two year old little girl in tow) and pull it down winding mountains roads back home to Nashville.
My advice to everyone now is your spouse needs to know how to hook everything up and tow your rig BEFORE something happens. It's kind of like learning to change a tire for the first time in the dark, on the side of the road with it raining.

Go under "window" and select freeze paynes. Have you cursor in the cell you want to freeze. For example, if you want to freeze your header, highlight a cell just below the header line.

RE: 29bhs and Toyota Sequoia TV

We have a Jayco 27BH, which is close in length, about 800 lbs lighter with a little lighter tounge, and we tow it with our 2005 Sequoia. Our '05 is a little shorter WB than the 2008, and we have no problems. When we first bought our 27BH, we didn't have the Equalizer set up correctly and had some issues, but once I re-set up the Equalizer and learned how to pack the trailer, we have no problems whatosever. The only thing I lack is power in the hills. With the new 5.7L, I doubt you will have that issue.
We took have been tire kicking the 08's because we love our '05. The only reason we want to trade is the bigger engine and increased towing capacity. We would like to trade our 27BH for the 29BHS (same floor plan, but with a slide)and I wouldn't hesistate towing it with the 2008.

RE: How to store Equalizer?

Talk about a hijacked thread!! I don't mind, though!
I don't have the option to store it in a truck bed since I have a Yukon (Suburban). I would like to be able to store it so that it is not hanging out of the trailer tongue, and it is not in the truck receiver where it will get in the way if we are driving around. I guess I'll sit it on something or in something in the front pass-through. I do not have any other outside compartments on my TT.
We have a yukon shorty. We have our 3rd row taken out. We put our hitchhead inside a box inside the Yukon off in the corner. Hasn't been a problem other than it can be quite heavy. The more we do it, the easier it is. We use a heavy duty cardboard box - still on the same box for 1 1/2 years (it's fortified with lots of duct tape :C)
I used to put my hitch head in the "trunk" area of our Sequoia until I thought about what would happen in an accident. That hitch head would become a 90lb projectile in the event of a roll over. I personally saw an accident where a guy was pinned in between his dash and windshield when the spare tire he was carrying in the back of his hatch back came flying to the front after he was rear ended. After that accident, I'm always careful about what I put in the back of our Sequoia.

RE: How to store Equalizer?

I found the perfect solution to storing the bars and head. I took the bags those cheap fold up camp chairs come in and store my bars in those. While the bars are still mounted to the head, I slide the bag over the bar, disconnect the bar and then take bag and all and store in the forward compartment. The bags are the perfect length and they have a draw sting on them.
For the hitch head, I found an old piece of Formica laminate from a kitchen remodel I done. I cut the Formica to fit my forward compartment so I could store heavy things without cutting the lino. I put the hitch head on this Formica.

RE: Stone Mountain Park GA???

We have stayed there several times and enjoy the park. As others have said, some of the sites are hard to get into and unlevel. We've always stayed on the loop around the pool. All of those sites are level and will hold any size rig. If you stay in any other loop, bring lots of blocks or whatever you use to level the trailer.
Happy Camper is right. The only spots I would attempt are the one's around the pool.

RE: Lake Ozarks Campground close to activities by boat?

Shirley can probably give you a better opinion than me, but I have spent every summer for the last 20 years at LOZ. We are considering camping at the State Park this year while the rest of our family stays at the house on Turkey Bend. The park is pretty nice, but I don't recall any sites being on the water where you can pull a boat up to. I tried to run our 32' tri-tune up to a camp site and struck bottom 10' from shore.
I noticed you had a 22' boat. You will have a very rough ride on the weekends since the lake is over run with 35' speed boats. They create some major waves and we have a tough go in our 32' tri-pontoon on busy weekends. Go early, find a nice large cove and enjoy the beautiful lake.

RE: Stone Mountain Park GA???

I didn't camp there, but I drove through all of the campgrounds while I was at a meeting at the Evergreen Marriott. I was actually very unimpressed with the campground. I typically like a rustic campground, but there were many sites I could not get my 27' TT in. The access roads and sites that had asphalt were very rutted and in disrepair. The area is beautiful with lots to do, but the campgound needs a major overhaul in my opinion.

RE: Topsail-May 18-25th

We arrive on the 17th for a week. Site # seventy-something ( I just drive, the wife tells me where to go :B). We were there at Christmas and loved it. Topsail Hill is on my shortlist of good spots.
We need to compile a list of good restaurants. Any suggestions will be appreciated. We liked McGuires Irish Pub and will go there again.
Just got back yesterday and tried several new resturants. For local flavor, hang a right out of the park and go about 4 miles to Goatfeathers. Nothing fancy, but very, very good. All the local cops were eating there while we were there. There is a seafood market downstairs and the restaurant is upstairs. They also have steaks, chicken, etc.
For a very special meal, try 30A Cafe. The best gourmet meal I have ever had. If you are a wine drinker (we're not, but was impressed nonetheless), they have several hundered selections with a very expensive reserve list. It cost us about $110 for salads, entree and dessert. I normally wouldn't spend that much, but I would do it again in a heart beat.

RE: Destin FL. Rv Resorts.

We just got back yesterday from Topsail. Absoutley the best. There is a forum member who has taken a picture of every site. Do a search for Topsail and you should be able to find it.
They do have 50 amp service, with sewer and cable. All sites are paved and many will accomodate your rig. Check out the 100's sites.

RE: No sway control ='s disaster

It's possible to tow a TT with a crew cab DRW pickup without sway control and not have sway but hook up the same TT to a short wheelbase SUV like a Tahoe and have big time sway.
An update to my orginial post:
The truck was a one ton SRW Cummins Dodge. I called the dealer to find out what happened and it was a transport driver transferring a trailer from one dealership to the other. The driver is not sure what happened, he said the trailer started to sway (which I could tell from my point of view from behind) going around a fairly aggressive turn in the interstate and just lost control. The trailer was empty, so loading was not an issue.
I never said sway control would have prevented the accident, I stated
"I cannot help but think sway control would have helped prevent this accident." Sway control is no replacement for common sense, and unexplained accidents do happen.

RE: rockwood or jayco?

If the Jayco is heavier, maybe there is a reason? Our Jayco has solid oak cabinetry, a full ceiling height and I feel like very well built.

RE: Stupidest thing you’ve done while RVing

I "accidently" stole my neighbors water hose and pressure regulator. Not good!
We were camping next to friends and they left to go home while we were running errands. When we returned, I saw what I thought was thier water hose left at their site and disconneted it and brought it to my site. About 20 minutes later, a class C pulled up looking for their hose. I brought their hose back over and tried to explain that I didn't mean to steal it. They were an older couple and very irate. They proceeded to call the ranger and wanted to press charges for theft! Luckly, the ranger had some common sense and told the couple to get over it. My wife still gives me a hard time about that 10 years later!
